A Man with a Quilted Sleeve is an oil-on-canvas portrait painted by the Venetian artist Titian around 1510, now held by the National Gallery in London. It shows an unidentified sitter, tentatively identified since 2017 as Gerolamo Barbarigo, though earlier scholars variously proposed the poet Ludovico Ariosto or even Titian himself as the subject. The sitter's quilted sleeve is painted projecting over the stone parapet at the picture's edge, a device that draws the viewer into the pictorial space rather than holding them at a fixed distance. The painting is considered an important early statement of Venetian Renaissance portraiture, and its pose was later borrowed by Rembrandt for some of his own self-portraits.
