Battleship Potemkin

Films

A 1925 Soviet silent film directed by Sergei Eisenstein dramatizing the 1905 mutiny aboard the battleship Potemkin. Its Odessa Steps sequence, built through rapid, rhythmic montage editing, became one of the most studied and imitated passages in film history and established Eisenstein's theory that meaning in cinema arises from the collision of shots.
