The Street Enters the House

Abstract and Modernist Paintings

The Street Enters the House, La Strada Entra nella Casa, is an oil on canvas painting made in 1912 by the Italian Futurist artist Umberto Boccioni. It shows a woman on a balcony looking down over a busy street, the noise and motion of the scene below rendered as fragmented, overlapping shapes and colour that appear to spill into the domestic space around her, expressing the Futurist idea that modern urban sensation could not be held apart from private life. The painting measures about 100 by 100.5 centimetres and is held at the Sprengel Museum in Hanover, Germany.
