The Merry Drinker is an oil on canvas painting by the Dutch Golden Age artist Frans Hals, made around 1628 to 1630 and measuring about 81 by 66.5 centimeters. It shows a man wearing a leather jerkin, a lace collar and cuffs, and a floppy hat tipped at an angle, gesturing with one hand while holding a glass of white wine in the other. Hals painted it with a distinctive technique of layered paint and loose brushwork that makes it difficult to classify strictly as either a genre scene or a portrait, and it is regarded as one of the Rijksmuseum's most popular works for its originality and candor. It is held at the Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam. This description is adapted from Wikipedia contributors under CC BY-SA 4.0; changes were made. https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/4.0/
