The Symphony No. 9 in E minor, subtitled From the New World, Op. 95, was composed by Antonín Dvorak in 1893 while he was director of the National Conservatory of Music of America, a post he held from 1892 to 1895. It premiered in New York City on December 16, 1893, and remains one of the most popular symphonies ever written. In older editions and recordings the work was numbered Symphony No. 5, reflecting the order of its first publication rather than its true place in Dvorak's output.
