Ballets whose story is taken from a play, a novel or a poem. A work belongs here when the cited article names the literary work that the ballet follows. It excludes ballets built on fairy tales and legends and ballets without a story. The choreographer and composer of such a ballet turn plot and character from the page into movement and music, usually without any spoken word, and the audience is expected to know the source. It excludes ballets based on folk tales, ballets with no story at all and dance dramas drawn from history.
