Silent Era Films

Feature films made before synchronized dialogue became the norm, in the 1920s, told through images, intertitles and music. A film belongs here when the cited article calls it a silent film. It excludes sound films, including films of the same decade that used recorded sound. Their makers told stories with images, gestures, intertitles and a live musical accompaniment, and they developed the language of editing, lighting and camera movement that later sound films inherited. The group includes epics, horror, romance and religious drama from several countries. It excludes sound films and later films made in a silent style.
