Plum Brandy is an oil on canvas painting made around 1877 by the French painter Edouard Manet, held at the National Gallery of Art in Washington, D.C. It shows a young woman, modeled by the actress Ellen Andree, seated alone at a cafe table in a pink dress, holding an unlit cigarette beside an untouched plum steeped in brandy. Andree also modeled for Edgar Degas's similarly themed 1876 painting L'Absinthe, and art historians have read Manet's quieter, more melancholy treatment of a lone working woman in a cafe as a response to Degas's bleaker composition.
