The Akrotiri Boxer Fresco, discovered in 1967, is one of the Wall Paintings of Thera and a leading example of Minoan painting, dating to the Bronze Age around 1700 BC. It depicts two young boys wearing boxing gloves and belts, found in room B1 of Building Beta at the site of Akrotiri on Santorini, Greece, alongside the Antelope Fresco; around 1600 BC an earthquake and volcanic eruption buried the town in pumice and ash, preserving the frescoes. The boys are shown slightly over life-size at roughly five feet ten inches tall, painted on smooth lime plaster, with differences in hair, jewelry and skin tone thought to mark differences in age or status; whether the scene shows a competitive match or a routine sport is not known.
