Portraits of Women and Girls

Portraits of a single woman or girl, from society portraits and royal court images to studies of anonymous models. A work belongs here when the cited article names a woman or girl as the sitter. It excludes portraits of women who also appear with family or a partner, which sit with the family and group portraits, and portraits of ruling queens, which sit with the rulers. Sitters include society women of the nineteenth century, a court lady with an ermine, an actress in a role, women of the Roman world and the most famous portrait in Europe. The group follows the sitter named in the cited article and not the painter or century.
