Armando Morales was a Nicaraguan painter considered one of the most important artists his country has produced. Born in Granada, Nicaragua, he won his first major recognition at the Central American Painting Contest in Guatemala in 1956, where his painting Spook Tree was later purchased by the Museum of Modern Art in New York. His work was shown in a series of exhibitions at the Galerie Claude Bernard in Paris between 1984 and 2000, and he died in Miami, Florida.
