Baldassare Peruzzi (1481-1536) was an Italian architect and painter active chiefly in Rome during the High Renaissance and Mannerist periods. He designed and decorated the Villa Farnesina in Rome, including the Sala delle Prospettive with its striking illusionistic perspective effects, and he designed the Palazzo Massimo alle Colonne, notable for its curving facade and inventive planning. He also collaborated on the design of St. Peter's Basilica and left behind a significant body of pen and ink drawings, many preserved in the Uffizi Gallery.
