Dieter Rams (born 1932) is a German industrial designer most closely associated with the consumer products company Braun, the furniture company Vitsoe, and the functionalist school of industrial design. His unobtrusive approach and belief in "less, but better" design has influenced design practice as well as twentieth-century aesthetics and culture broadly, and he has been quoted as saying that indifference toward people and the reality in which they live is the one and only cardinal sin in design.
