George Ohr was an American potter who lived from 1857 to 1918 and worked in Biloxi, Mississippi, known for eccentric, thin-walled ceramic vessels with crumpled, twisted and folded forms far ahead of the decorative pottery conventions of his own time, which brought him little recognition or income during his life. Calling himself the Mad Potter of Biloxi, his work was rediscovered decades after his death and is now recognized as a major forerunner of modern studio ceramics.
