Grayson Perry (born 1960) is an English artist, writer, broadcaster and performer known for drag, ceramic vases and tapestries, along with his observations of the contemporary art scene and of British prejudices, fashions and foibles. His vases carry classical forms decorated in bright colors depicting subjects at odds with their attractive appearance, often with a strong autobiographical element, including his female alter ego Claire and his childhood teddy bear Alan Measles; he was awarded the Turner Prize in 2003, delivered the BBC Reith Lectures in 2013, and his work is held in the permanent collections of institutions including Tate and the Victoria and Albert Museum.
