Angela Isadora Duncan (1877 to 1927) was an American born dancer and choreographer regarded as a pioneer of modern dance, who performed to great acclaim throughout Europe and the United States. Born and raised in California, she lived and danced in Western Europe, the United States and Soviet Russia from the age of twenty two. She died in Nice, France, when a scarf she was wearing became entangled in the wheel and axle of the car in which she was travelling.
