Jan Collaert I was a Netherlandish engraver, recorded by the Metropolitan Museum of Art as working in Antwerp from about 1530 until his death there in 1581. The museum holds his engraving Nimrod Deciding Where to Build the Tower, dated 1585, which is the first plate of a series on the Tower of Babel bound into the Thesaurus Sacrarum historiarum Veteris et Novi Testamenti, in a first state of two. The atlas records him as the named engraver of that biblical print, one of the sacred images in the divinity atlas that points to this entry for its maker.
