Judith Scott was an American fiber sculptor who lived from 1943 to 2005. She was deaf and had Down syndrome, and was internationally renowned for her art. In 1987 she was enrolled at the Creative Growth Art Center in Oakland, California, which supports people with developmental disabilities, and there she discovered her passion and talent for abstract fiber art, finding in it a new form of communication. Her life is the subject of the book Entwined: Sisters and Secrets in the Silent World of Artist Judith Scott, written by her twin sister Joyce Wallace Scott.
