Krishna Reddy

Krishna Reddy was an Indian master printmaker, sculptor and educator who lived from 1925 to 2018 and spent much of his career working internationally. Born in Nandanoor, Andhra Pradesh, he became known as a master intaglio printer whose prints feature abstract designs with subtle, grid like textures and intricate coloration reflecting what has been described as a contemplative approach to the infinite mysteries of nature. He was instrumental in developing viscosity printing, a technique for producing multi colored prints from a single printing matrix by exploiting the differing viscosity and tackiness of inks, which he later taught at Robert Blackburn's Printmaking Workshop in New York. He received India's Padma Shri award in 1972, and his work is held in the permanent collection of the National Gallery of Art in Washington.
