Shepard Fairey

Shepard Fairey is an American street artist and graphic designer born in 1970 who first gained attention with his Andre the Giant Has a Posse sticker campaign, begun in 1989 while a student at the Rhode Island School of Design, which evolved into the OBEY Giant brand and clothing line. He is best known for the red, white and blue Hope portrait of Barack Obama created for the 2008 presidential campaign, one of the most widely reproduced political images of that era, which led to a copyright dispute with the Associated Press that Fairey settled in 2011.
