Sui Jianguo, born in 1956 in Qingdao, is a Chinese sculptor and long-serving professor and department chair at the Central Academy of Fine Arts in Beijing, known for working in hard, heavy materials such as granite and steel through processes of binding, sealing and hammering. His Mao Jacket series, begun in 1997, reimagines Mao Zedong's signature suit as a hollow, oversized bronze form and remains his most widely recognized work, alongside his Jurassic-themed Made in China dinosaur sculptures examining Chinese export manufacturing.
