Heitor Villa-Lobos

Heitor Villa-Lobos was a Brazilian composer, conductor, cellist and classical guitarist described as the single most significant creative figure in twentieth-century Brazilian art music. A prolific composer who wrote more than two thousand pieces of orchestral, chamber, instrumental and vocal music by the time of his death in 1959, he blended Brazilian folk material with the European classical tradition, most famously in his Bachianas Brasileiras cycle and his Choros. His Etudes for classical guitar, dedicated to Andres Segovia, remain central works in the classical guitar repertoire.
