Dario Fo

Dario Fo was an Italian playwright, actor, theatre director, stage designer and songwriter, and a political campaigner for the Italian left, who received the Nobel Prize in Literature in 1997. Described in his time as arguably the most widely performed contemporary playwright in world theatre, he built much of his dramatic work around improvisation and the recovery of older, unofficial forms of Italian performance, particularly the ancient tradition of commedia dell'arte and the wandering jester or giullare. His best known play, Accidental Death of an Anarchist, is a satire built around a real police scandal.
