Contemporary and Political Street Art

Murals, stencil works and other street art created directly on a public wall or building surface, most from the late twentieth century onward, including work carrying an explicit political, satirical or social message alongside purely decorative or commemorative murals. This group is distinguished from every other group here by its own medium and public, unsanctioned or site-specific placement rather than canvas or panel painting hung in a gallery, and excludes an easel painting of an urban scene, which belongs under Street and Urban Life instead.
