Basket of Fruit is a still life painting from around 1599 by the Italian Baroque master Caravaggio, which hangs in the Biblioteca Ambrosiana in Milan. It shows a wicker basket of summer fruit, including a peach, an apple, a pear, figs, a quince and clusters of grapes, many rendered with visible insect damage and imperfection. Scholars have read the fading, worm-eaten fruit as a meditation on decay and the passing of beauty, and by 1607 the painting was part of Cardinal Federico Borromeo's collection in Milan.
