Impressionist and Post-Impressionist Painters

Painters of Impressionism, the late nineteenth century French movement built around loose brushwork, everyday subject matter and the direct study of light, and Post-Impressionism, the varied movements and individual styles, including Pointillism and Divisionism, that its own original exhibiting members and their immediate successors developed afterward. This group gathers the founding Impressionist exhibitors, painters closely associated with their exhibiting circle, and the Post-Impressionist painters whose own work grew directly out of that movement, and excludes the twentieth century movements Post-Impressionism itself gave rise to, such as Cubism, Fauvism and Expressionism, gathered instead under the Modernist group's own children.
