Lee Krasner

Lee Krasner was an American Abstract Expressionist painter who lived from 1908 to 1984, born in Brooklyn to Russian Jewish immigrant parents and trained at the Cooper Union and the National Academy of Design. She worked in a gestural abstract style through several distinct phases across her career, including her Little Image series of the late 1940s. Married to Jackson Pollock from 1945 until his death in 1956, she managed his estate afterward, and her own reputation was long overshadowed by his until a major 1984 retrospective at the Museum of Modern Art helped establish her as a major artist in her own right.
