Aretha Franklin was an American singer known as the Queen of Soul who lived from 1942 to 2018. Her recordings for Atlantic Records in the late 1960s, including Respect in 1967 and Chain of Fools, made her one of the most commercially successful and influential vocalists in American popular music. She trained singing gospel in her father's Detroit church before her secular career, and in 1987 became the first woman inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
