Lata Dinanath Mangeshkar was an Indian playback singer and occasional music composer who lived from 28 September 1929 to 6 February 2022, regarded as one of the most influential vocalists of the Indian subcontinent. Over an eight-decade career she recorded songs in more than 36 Indian languages, chiefly Hindustani, Bengali and Marathi, earning the honorific titles Queen of Melody and Voice of the Millennium. She received India's highest civilian award, the Bharat Ratna, in 2001, and in 1974 became the first Indian playback singer to perform at London's Royal Albert Hall.
