Freddie Mercury was a British singer and songwriter who lived from 1946 to 1991, lead vocalist of the rock band Queen from 1970 until his death, known for a wide vocal range and flamboyant stage presence and for writing songs including Bohemian Rhapsody in 1975 and We Are the Champions in 1977. Born in Zanzibar to Parsi Indian parents, he died of complications from AIDS in 1991, shortly after publicly acknowledging his diagnosis.
