Rabah Driassa

Rabah Driassa (1934-2021) was an Algerian painter and folk singer born in Blida who began his public career in the visual arts, creating glass sculptures and miniatures, before moving into music. From 1953 he performed his own compositions on Algerian radio, and songs such as Hizia, Nejma Qotbia and El Goumri became lasting national hits across Algeria from the 1950s through the 1980s. He remained professionally active as a performer until 1990. He is remembered in Algeria chiefly as a singer, though his early training and output as a visual artist were part of the same career.
