La Scapigliata is an unfinished painting generally attributed to the Italian Renaissance artist Leonardo da Vinci, dated to around 1506 to 1508. Painted in oil, umber and white lead pigments on a small poplar wood panel, it depicts the head of a young woman with dishevelled hair rendered in soft sfumato shading, while the rest of the composition remains only sketched. Its attribution to Leonardo himself, rather than to a pupil, remains disputed among experts, though the work is widely admired for its captivating and mysterious quality.
