Hans Leinberger

Sculptors

Hans Leinberger, sometimes given as Lemberger, was a Late Gothic sculptor from Altbayern who worked in wood, metal and stone and lived from about 1475 or 1480 until after 1531. His birthplace and artistic education are unknown, and the first documented reference places him in Landshut in 1510. His fame rests largely on the high altar of the Church of Saint Castulus in Moosburg an der Isar, completed in 1514 and the largest surviving altarpiece in Altbayern. In the same year he made a statue of Albert IV for the Hofkirche in Innsbruck from a drawing provided by Albrecht Durer.
