Sculptors of the late Gothic period in central Europe, in the fifteenth and early sixteenth centuries, who carved altarpieces and devotional figures in wood, stone and metal in the south German and Tyrolean workshops that preceded the Renaissance. Their carved wooden figures and altarpieces stand in the churches of South Tyrol, Bavaria and nearby regions, where carving workshops produced the saints, Madonnas and crucifixes that filled late medieval parish churches.
