Movements

A movement is a shared current running through many artists' work at once, a set of aims, techniques or a shared moment that later critics and historians name so a period of art can be read as a conversation rather than a list of individuals. This band walks the standard art-historical periodization from the earliest surviving traditions through the twenty-first century, so a reader can follow how one movement answered or broke from the one before it, and place any single artist or work against the current it belonged to.
