Autumn Rhythm (Number 30) is a large 1950 painting by Jackson Pollock, made by laying unstretched canvas on the studio floor and dripping, flinging and pouring commercial enamel paint from above rather than applying it with a brush to an upright canvas. The result is an all-over composition of interlaced black, white and brown skeins of paint with no single focal point and no evident top or bottom dictated by the process itself, a technique and scale widely treated as the definitive statement of Abstract Expressionist gestural painting.
