The Empire State Building is a 102-story skyscraper in the Midtown South neighborhood of Manhattan, New York City, designed in the Art Deco style by the firm Shreve, Lamb and Harmon and constructed between 1930 and 1931. Its name comes from Empire State, the nickname of New York, and it rises to a roof height of 1,250 feet and a total height of 1,454 feet including its antenna. It was the world's tallest building until 1970, briefly regained the title of New York City's tallest after the September 11 attacks in 2001, and remains one of the most recognized skyscrapers in the world.
