A woodcut by the German artist Albrecht Dürer, created in 1515 from a written description and sketch of an Indian rhinoceros that had arrived in Lisbon, an animal Dürer never saw in person. Despite its anatomical inaccuracies, it became the definitive European image of a rhinoceros for the following three centuries and remains one of the most reproduced woodcuts in art history.
