The Rijksmuseum is the national museum of the Netherlands dedicated to Dutch arts and history, located at the Museum Square in Amsterdam South, near the Van Gogh Museum, the Stedelijk Museum and the Royal Concertgebouw. It was founded in The Hague in 1798 and moved to Amsterdam in 1808; its current main building was designed by Pierre Cuypers and first opened in 1885, later reopening in 2013 after a ten-year renovation costing 375 million euros. The museum displays 8,000 objects from a total collection of one million objects spanning the years 1200 to 2000, including masterpieces by Rembrandt, Frans Hals and Johannes Vermeer, alongside a smaller Asian collection in its Asian pavilion.
