Supermac (cartoon)

Prints and Drawings

Supermac, originally captioned Super-Mac, is a 1958 political cartoon by the caricaturist Vicky (Victor Weisz), first published in the Evening Standard on 6 November 1958. It depicted the British prime minister Harold Macmillan in the guise of the comic book hero Superman, under the dismissive caption How to Try to Continue to be Top Without Actually Having Been There, and the image gave rise to an enduring nickname for Macmillan that outlived the cartoon itself.
