A collection of several thousand life-sized terracotta figures of soldiers, chariots and horses, buried around 210 BCE near the tomb of China's first emperor, Qin Shi Huang, to accompany him into the afterlife. Discovered by farmers in 1974, each figure carries individualized facial features, and the site is one of the most significant archaeological finds of the twentieth century.
