Edward Albee was an American playwright known for works including The Zoo Story, The Sandbox, Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf?, A Delicate Balance and Three Tall Women. Three of his plays won the Pulitzer Prize for Drama and two of his other works won the Tony Award for Best Play, and some critics have placed parts of his output within what Martin Esslin named the Theatre of the Absurd. Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf?, his portrait of a disintegrating marriage staged across one drunken night, remains his most widely performed and adapted work.
