Michael Jackson

Michael Joseph Jackson was an American singer, songwriter and dancer who lived from 1958 to 2009, known as the King of Pop. He made his public debut at age six as lead singer of the Jackson 5 before achieving global solo success with the albums Off the Wall (1979) and Thriller (1982), the latter the best-selling album in history, and he transformed visual performance in popular music through his music videos and dance moves such as the moonwalk. From the mid-1980s he came under sustained public scrutiny over his lifestyle and relationships; he was accused of child sexual abuse in 1993, settled that case out of court, and was tried and acquitted of separate abuse charges in 2005. He died in 2009 of an overdose administered by his personal physician.
