Adoration of the Christ Child (Bosch)

Adoration of the Christ Child is an oil on wood panel painting, 66 by 43 centimeters, long attributed to the Early Netherlandish painter Hieronymus Bosch but now understood to have been made around 1568 by a later follower working in his style, more than fifty years after Bosch's death in 1516. It is held in the Wallraf-Richartz Museum in Cologne. The painting depicts the Virgin Mary kneeling in adoration over the infant Christ, a standard devotional subject of the Nativity in Christian art, rendered here in the idiom associated with Bosch's workshop rather than as an autograph work.
