Medieval and Renaissance Christian Scenes

Christian religious paintings, icons and frescoes made from late antiquity through the close of the sixteenth century, spanning early Christian catacomb art, Byzantine and Orthodox icon painting, and the altarpieces, frescoes and devotional panels of the Gothic, early Renaissance and High Renaissance periods across Italy and Northern Europe. This group excludes a Christian scene painted from the seventeenth century onward, gathered under Baroque and Later Christian Scenes, and excludes a scene from the Old Testament, gathered under its own group even when painted in the same period.
