Parable of the Sower (Bruegel)

Parable of the Sower is an oil on wood panel painting completed in 1557 by the Flemish artist Pieter Bruegel the Elder, now in the Timken Museum of Art in San Diego. One of Bruegel's earliest signed works and among his first large landscape compositions, it illustrates the biblical parable of the sower, showing the sower scattering seed in the foreground while, across the river, Jesus preaches the same parable to a crowd near a Flemish village and church.
