Pieter Bruegel the Elder (c. 1525/30 to 1569) was a painter and printmaker of Dutch and Flemish Renaissance art, among the most significant artists of that tradition. He was known for his landscapes and peasant scenes and was a pioneer in presenting both kinds of subject as large paintings rather than minor motifs.
