San Giobbe Altarpiece

The San Giobbe Altarpiece is an oil on panel painting made around 1487 by the Venetian painter Giovanni Bellini, now in the Gallerie dell'Accademia in Venice. Created for the church of San Giobbe after a plague outbreak in 1485, it is a sacra conversazione showing the Madonna and Child enthroned among Saints Francis, John the Baptist, Job, Sebastian, Dominic and Louis of Toulouse, with three musician angels below the throne. Painted to fit the architecture of its original chapel, it is one of the largest works of its kind from its period. Napoleon's forces removed it from Venice, and it was later returned to the city.
