Madonna del Cardellino, also known as the Madonna of the Goldfinch, is an oil on wood panel painting by the Italian Renaissance master Raphael, made around 1505 to 1506 and measuring about 107 by 77 centimeters. It shows the Virgin Mary, dressed in traditional red and blue, together with the Christ Child and the young John the Baptist arranged in a triangular composition, with John holding a goldfinch that Christ reaches toward. The panel was broken into seventeen pieces in 1548 when a landslide destroyed the house in which it was kept, and it underwent a ten year restoration completed in 2008. It is held at the Uffizi Gallery in Florence. This description is adapted from Wikipedia contributors under CC BY-SA 4.0; changes were made. https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/4.0/
