Maestà (Simone Martini)

Maesta is a fresco painted between 1312 and 1315 by the Sienese artist Simone Martini, covering the entire north wall of the Sala del Mappamondo in the Palazzo Pubblico in Siena, Italy, and measuring 7.63 by 9.7 meters. It depicts the Madonna and Child enthroned amid saints and angels, a subject known as a Maesta. The fresco is regarded as one of Martini's masterpieces and one of the most important works of fourteenth century Italian painting.
